Whole self-training encompasses three things: Mind, body, and spirit. Where does fitness come in you ask? Well fitness helps us to feel connected to these three things. To fully connect, we must get uncomfortable. Now that is not to say you will be comfortable with being uncomfortable, you may still be uncomfortable for a while, but just know you are growing. Take these steps to grow for yourself, and within yourself.
I start with the spirit because everything we do, we feel. If you are not feeling, then you are not living. Now that is coming from a person who often struggles with his own feelings but trust me when I say feelings are what make us alive. Right now, as I type these words, my spirit is motivated to help others who may be looking to better connect to themselves. Aligning your spirit with your passion can help you reach your full potential in anything. We can align our spirit with our passion to use as a compass in pursuit of what we value the most. This chase is unique to you and your journey. One thing to note is that no pursuit is too great when your spirit and passion are in sync. Explore yourself, your feelings, your emotions, your fears, your joy, all of you. Allow exploration and digging deep to be your training. Your mind can one of your biggest allies, as well as one of your greatest enemies. Often, when our mind is telling us to give up or give in, it is trying to protect us. Even your own mind doesn’t know the greatness you are capable of, so you have to teach it. Through a method known as neural plasticity, we can shape our brains to overcome challenges and develop endurance like no other. How do we get there? Through challenging ourselves, doing the hard thing, making a choice that would normally hurt, and pushing through the pain time and time again. Now I’m not talking about physical pain, I mean the pain of leaving our comfort zone. Break through your mental chains and you will find that the only person holding yourself back is you. I know you have heard the phrase that our body is a temple and should be treated like it, well don’t take that phrase lightly. Getting in touch with your body helps to continue foster connection with the mind and soul. This is the final piece because without the other two, our bodies are lost vessels searching for guidance. We can use our bodies in so many ways, it’s amazing really. Whether that be through sport, strength training, yoga, walking, running, swimming, cycling etc. Movement is so vital to every facet of our being, that we would be doing our bodies a disservice if we didn’t maximize every opportunity we can to move. So find a movement you enjoy and have fun with it. Whole self-training is about unlocking doors and breaking down barriers that may be holding you back. I hope that through reading this, you are ready to take the necessary steps to break down your own barriers. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you need help with that. I believe it is my purpose to serve as many people as I can with the knowledge I have, and I am more than happy to do so.
